Choosing the inner circle of life

I want you to stop and reflect with me for a moment. Who is in your inner circle? Who are the top 5 people that you spend most of your time with? You’ve heard the saying, you’re most like the top five people in your life. Is that a compliment or a slap in the face? If those people in your inner circle are successful, adding to their community, driven and making a difference in their own lives and others. I will tell you that you should pat yourself on the back as you have uncovered the truth and mystery behind those that are successful in life by surrounding yourself with good energy.

If you are struggling with this answer to my question and you’re unsure as to who this inner circle is. Start by using your phone as a guide. This will include who you live with, family, roommates, etc. I want you to go to your smart phone and look at your most recent texts of those that you communicate with the most. Then I want you to glance through your emails and social media. See where you also spend a lot of time in communication with certain influences as well. Then make a list, write these names down. This self-reflection exercise that I am encouraging you to do has nothing to do with picking on your friends or family. This is about choosing what is best for YOU. This is about being selective of who and where you spend most of your energy. You may have heard the saying, if you want to grow- don’t be the smartest person in the room. Honestly you will stay stagnant in life without the need to expand and grow outside of your comfort zone.

redwoodsNow that you have your list of influences I want you to close your eyes and imagine these people as trees in your little forest of life. Picture yourself as a beautiful budding tree. If your influences surrounding you are also trees, what do they look like? Are they wilting and dead trees? Or are they giant massive redwood trees? If you’re in a forest with massive big redwoods that stretch into the sky… as high as where the eagles fly then you have nowhere to go but up. How inspiring is that little tree that is budding and creating branches of new leaves and life. If you’re surrounded by dead wilting trees your inspiration isn’t much more than death…am I right? Your environment to grow and stretch for the sky is tainted. As I paint this picture for you…and yes its necessary so that you can see your life as a beautiful forest of trees. First ask yourself what sort of tree are you and what sort of trees are you growing around you? If your answer is redwoods, my friend you have chosen a great energy to embrace. You will grow and stretch like never before in your life. If you’re surrounding yourself with wilting trees that block others from the natural sunlight then its time to replant yourself into a new forest, a better nurturing forest for your soul.

What inspired me to create this exercise for you is due to the fact that my coach had asked me personally to make a list of those I spend my time with. How many were entrepreneurs and how many were successful. How many were a lot like myself and were any of them inspiring me or dragging me backward. I hated to admit that it was a 50/50 list. I’m surrounded by successful people with a positive mindset and my list of strong woman in my life is a long one. But I was falling short by not spending enough time with those people. I needed to make it a priority to spend more time with them, take them for coffee, schedule a chat on the phone and learn from them. I need to be inspired by my inner circle daily so that I keep catapulting forward at a healthy pace of self growth versus being stagnant or neutral. I haven’t turned my back on any of my friends or family. I’ve just increased my time and awareness with those that I inspire to be like and I’ve decreased my time with those that actually drain my energy and deplete me.

I encourage you to do this same exercise if you feel at all dissatisfied with the direction your life is heading. We are all on different playing fields in our lifetime and in order to grow this is a necessary step in life.

Be well… keep shining and growing upward.
