Time for a little self love…

Ok… so what does that mean exactly? What thoughts run through your head when you see or hear that particular saying?

I struggled with this for a long time- even until recently and it’s still a challenge for me. Those moms that are reading this may agree and relate. We love to take care of others, and feel great when we can do something wonderful for our children or partner. I call them “love tasks”. The key is, what about doing those exact same love tasks for yourself?

It wasn’t until I read “The dark side of the light chasers” by Debbie Ford. That’s when the light bulb clicked on for me. She had mentioned in that book that she never took the time to actually prepare for herself an amazing dinner, complete with wine and candlelight, as if a hot date were coming by. At first I thought, well what a waste of time and effort if no one sees it? Then I tried it for myself one time… then another time. I looked forward to cooking for myself and treating myself to wine and my favorite cuisine. Of course I would prefer to share that with my special truelove but overall, it was an act of love to me.

Now I think to myself, what can I do for Karie today? What one act can I place on my calendar that is MY choice.

Here are some examples of activity that you may be lacking in your schedule to help with balance and vitality of life:

Alone time – for those with kids, this is a MUST

Book a massage

Go for a walk- run- hike

Take an art or dance lesson

Order in from your favorite restaurant and get a movie that you’ve been dying to see

Read a book that you’ve been putting off

Take a road trip to someplace you’ve been putting on hold for the perfect time

These are just a few suggestions. Naturally you should create your own list ahead of time. Then when you’re feeling like you’ve not placed yourself on your “to do” list, grab that list of ideas and make it happen!

After all…nothing is more attractive then when one places a high value on themselves. If you’re always putting yourself last, what are you telling the universe? That it’s ok to be last and that your personal needs are not important? We both know that you’re a special soul that deserves the very best from life.

Leave a comment of what it is that you enjoy doing as a “self love” act or “love task”.

Love – peace and gratitude!
